Welcome Adventurers!

Leslie Camacho I’m a father, husband, nerd, and the President of EllisLab. I love life and help people. Welcome to my corner of the web where I tell of my adventures and mishaps.

For example, in the 8th grade the Junior High Principal (a portly, gray haired gent whose name I can’t remember) called an assembly to discuss poor attendance and truancy. In front of the entire student body he said “There is one shining example of good attendance and that is Leslie Camacho. She…” and in unison 300 some odd students yelled at the top of their lungs “HE!”

An uncomfortable silence descended on the auditorium. I was sitting in the front row and I realized I had a decision that must be made. I could either be thoroughly embarrassed about being called a girl in front of everybody or I could lean into it and use it somehow. I turned around and waved at everybody. A cheer erupted.

The principal went red in the face, waddled a few paces back and forth, cleared his throat and said “of course, he…” and then rambled on about attendance.

What struck me was that people knew who I was. I was not a popular kid. I was overweight, a complete nerd (the Dungeons & Dragons kind), never had a girlfriend, and collected comic books. Yet, everybody in the room knew who I was and what I did mattered to them. All that was required of me was to face an inconvenience with the right spirit. I left the assembly changed.

Over the years I’ve learned to develop this gift and apply it to every aspect of my life. Sometimes it is easy to apply but most times it is difficult because “inconvenience” is a mild term for the things we face in life. But the adventure is always worth the effort.

At Salvator.me I collect these adventures along with odd bits from around the web. I also have a deep fondness for coffee, good beer (the site is named after a beer), and I’m still very much a nerd at heart.
